I chase light.  Sometimes that light is within my large private studio located in Shreveport, LA.  Other times, I chase the sun.

I specialize in boudoir, maternity, newborn and family photography.

What Makes Newborn Photography Special?

Newborn photography is an art form in its own right. Unlike other types of portraiture, photographing a newborn requires patience, skill, and an understanding of the baby’s needs. Here are some key elements that make newborn photography so unique:

  1. Timing is Key
The best time for newborn photography is within the first two weeks of life, but I take photos of newborns up to six weeks old all the time. During the first two weeks of life, babie are still very sleepy, allowing photographers to pose them in ways that highlight their natural features, like curled up positions or peaceful sleeping faces. After two weeks, babies start to become more alert and may be harder to pose… it is possible and typically takes more time.

  2. Safety First
Newborns are delicate, and safety is always a priority in newborn photography. A professional newborn photographer is trained to handle babies gently, using techniques to ensure their safety while posing them for photos. Photographers also make use of soft props and padded surfaces to ensure the baby's comfort.

  3. Natural Light and Soft Backdrops
Newborn photography often utilizes soft, natural light to create an ethereal, peaceful vibe. Many photographers also opt for neutral-colored backdrops—creams, whites, and light pastels—so the focus remains on the baby. Props like blankets, hats, and baskets are often used to enhance the cozy atmosphere.

  4. Patience and Flexibility
Babies can’t be rushed, and newborn photographers understand this. Sessions may take time, as babies need breaks for feeding and diaper changes. A flexible schedule ensures that the baby’s needs are met while still allowing the photographer to capture those special moments.
